Sara Sanders lives and works in Asheville, North Carolina, where she picks wildflowers as often as possible.
Working primarily in printmaking, Sanders makes watercolor monotypes and lithographs that call our attention to the familiar objects and natural forms that inhabit our everyday lives. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and has been acquired by numerous public and private collections, most notably The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY; Library of Congress, Washington, DC; New York Public Library; RISD Museum; and Christie’s Education, among others.
Sanders received a BFA in Studio Art with a focus in printmaking and a minor in Art History from the University of Florida. Her prints have been published by Forth Estate, Brooklyn, NY; Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, NY, NY; Flying Horse Editions, Orlando, FL; and David Krut Workshop, Johannesburg. Her work is also included in Prints and Their Makers, published by Princeton Architectural Press.
Before returning to the studio full time, Sanders worked for many years in high-end interior design in New York City. This experience helped to hone her eye and continues to inform her sensitivity to scale, proportion, material, and the quiet relationship between artwork and the spaces we inhabit. Years of living and working in New York City also awakened in her a yearning to be closer to nature and an appreciation for the small persistent forms of life that we encounter in our urban environments.
